These are the many reasons Why We Love Coconut Oil

Table of Contents

Different types:

Virgin/ Extra-Virgin

This type of coconut oil is the rawest form available in stores. Due to its minimal processing, it has a stronger coconut flavor and a lower smoke point.

Refined

Exactly as it sounds, refined coconut oil is the processed version of virgin or extra virgin coconut oil. It has a milder smell than the former.

Good news: they can be used interchangably when cooking, baking, or skincare.

MCT Oil

MCT Oil is short of Medium Chain Tryglicerides, also known as “good fats.” These kinds of fats are beneficial in boosting energy as they are transported directly to the liver, according to a study conducted by Pennington Biomedical Research Center at LSU.

MCT Oil has been proven to boost metabolism and aid in digestive conditions such as IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome) and colitis.

Coconut oil has many uses in the kitchen as well as the bathroom for personal grooming. It can also be used in the bedroom for adult activities as a natural lubricant.

Many Uses of Coconut Oil:

  • Cooking
  • Skincare
  • Haircare
  • Pet Health

Cooking

Coconut oil has a slightly nutty, almost vanilla flavor to it. It works in place of almost any vegetable oil, plus it has the added benefits discussed above:

High in Vitamins A & E and low cholesterol.

(It is also my go-to when infusing greenery into special desserts.)

It has a high burning point, making the best stovetop popcorn:

Coffee

Whipping MCT Oil into your morning coffee adds a rich and creamy viscosity to your cup of coffee.

Perfect for fighting constipation.

Skin

High in Vitamin E, for Excellent Skincare!

Makeup Removal

Coconut oil is gentle on skin and tough on stubborn waterproof eyeliner and mascara.

I regularly wear Magnetic Eyelashes and Handmade Kohl Eyeliner, which are incredibly durable throughout the day but super stubborn when trying to remove at night.

As seen on my Glam Granola post last week.

Yes, I am aware I spelled granola wrong (don’t drink wine and blog)

Directions:

  1. Simply apply a small amount of coconut oil to a cotton or reusable bamboo pad
  2. Gently wipe off your makeup as normal
  3. Remove excess oil with a new wet cotton pad or towel
  4. Rinse off with your favorite face wash
  5. Skincare as normal

Bedroom

Coconut oil acts as a natural lubricant in place of the drugstore or specialty shop versions. This single ingredient alternative is less sticky and messy than what is marketed as adult use lubricant.

It is strongly suggested to keep a separate jar for this use.

Haircare

The Kitsche Store is a company that we adore for their passion in reducing plastic waste in the haircare industry. Their shampoo and conditioner bars are made with natural ingredients that shine through in their versatile functions: such as rice water for strength, teatree for clarifying, and castor oil for growth.

Detangling Hair

The same jar of coconut oil that I keep for beauty, I also use for detangling my hair. It’s a single ingredient and affordable alternative to harmful over-the-counter products.

To Apply:

  1. Use a small amount of coconut oil to coat your fingers.
  2. Gently rub the knots, separating them apart
  3. Spraying with water as you go for a smoother experience.
  4. As the knots get smaller, pull them apart into individual strands.
  5. Once the knots are fully separated, run a hairbrush through
  6. Brush and Style hair as normal

Pets

According to PetMD, coconut oil offers many external and internal benefits for your cats and dogs.

Coconut oil can be applied externally to help relieve itchiness and allergies. It’s totally safe if your pet licks it off because coconut oil is as healthy for us as it is for them.

Introducing coconut oil into your pets diet has been shown to improve their immune system, coat health, arthritis or inflammation, and even bad breath.

For cats, implementing coconut oil also aids in reducing hairballs.

It can be a tasty and nutrious addition to their lick mats to keep them occupied.

Thanks for Reading!

Coconut Oil is nourishing inside and out; from its superfood status to its holistic and sustainable versatility for skin and haircare.

I have been using it to remove my dramatic makeup and detangle my processed hair for years now, and I am happy knowing I am saving money on traditional beauty products and also saving the environment.
